ECH to Hold Free Hunters’ Health Screenings This Month

The University of Vermont Health Network - Elizabethtown Community Hospital will host health screenings later this month for local hunters at its two campuses. The screening events, which are free and open to the public, are scheduled from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Monday, September 26 in Elizabethtown and Wednesday, September 28 in Ticonderoga.

While the events are geared toward deer hunters, hunters of all types are welcome – even bargain hunters.  Julie Tromblee, MSN, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer for Elizabethtown Community Hospital, said “Routine health screenings are important for everyone as they can help identify potential issues before they cause significant health concerns.”

Hospital staff will check blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol and oxygen levels as well as vision, height and weight. EKG readings are also available to assess heart health, and results will be mailed to participants within two weeks. Physical therapists will be on hand to guide hunters on proper lifting techniques. Information about local health care services and hunter safety will also be available.

Tromblee added, “While hunters don’t need to be at their highest level of fitness, they do need to be sure their bodies can handle the strenuous activity required before heading into the woods this season.”
